Family businesses in all industries are best served by understanding how to successfully manage the ever present competing forces of Family, Business and Ownership and executing sustainable business strategies that serve the current and future generations. Family Businesses are different and transactional help and planning is like putting the “cart before the horse”.

Families are not made of transactions… families are continually in transition. Transactional help, such as Estate Planning, Wills, Trusts, Buy-Sell Agreements and the like are valuable tools that are used to successfully execute a Family Business Transition Plan. Tools are only helpful when a plan is in place that serves the Family, Business and Ownership components of your business is a balanced and workable way. So how do we work together?

The Process
A good way to describe the process is making the comparison to building a home. You have a vision of what you want and seek out an architect. The architect takes your vision and creates a series of renderings, pictures of what your vision may be. Once you approve of the rendering, the architect creates a blueprint that transforms your vision into a working document. The blueprint is then used by various contractors to take your vision and create a home.

Family Business Transition Planning takes the vision of what you want to achieve in your Family Business and turns it into a blueprint for a sustainable multi generation family business. Once you approve of the “blueprint” we work together with your legal, accounting and financial advisors to create the tools to execute your vision.
Hourly Clients
I provide a free 1 hour consultation for clients, either telephone, video conferencing or in person. This consultation helps you see the value in the Family Business Transition Planning process and introduces you to how we work together. Upon your approval, we develop a proposal to work together balancing your budgetary requirements with your family business needs. Rates range from $175 to $225 based on our agreed upon work.
Retainer Clients
For families with more complex and longer term needs, a different approach is used to work together. I will work with you from 4 to 8 hours taking a deeper dive into your core concerns. This working session allows us to begin the Family Business Transition Planning process with no obligation on your part to proceed further. Rates are based on a monthly retainer starting at $800 and upward based on our agreed upon work.
Mentoring Clients
Successor generations need guidance and coaching for you to acheive your business succession goals. Mentoring programs begin with a minimum commitment of 10 hours usually in 2 hour sessions. Our experience has shown that 2 hours is the best time frame per session. This lower cost program is executed via conference calls and video conferencing technologies. Mentoring starts at $850 for 10 hours per month. If in-person meetings are required, we mutually plan those times and costs together. 

For all of our programs, upon your approval, we develop a plan that addresses your time frame, budget and most importantly your family business needs. Most family businesses see the value immediately and are anxious to work together on a mutually agreeable schedule.
